It’s difficult to find the best editing software. WhiteSmoke or Grammarly are two editing software options you might have heard about.
We’ll be comparing the options in this article to determine which one is best for you.
Grammarly and WhiteSmoke: This is a Comparison of the Pair
Grammarly and WhiteSmoke have many similarities and offer similar services. We will compare the following categories to see how they compare:
Features and integrations: What bells-and-whistles come with the tool’s tools? What integrations is the tool capable of?
Accuracy: How many errors and false positives will the tool detect?
Design and usability: How simple is the tool to use?
Value for money and price: What is the cost of this product and how much do you think it’s worth?
These are the four main categories that potential users will be considering when purchasing a tool. We’ll now examine how Grammarly and WhiteSmoke stack up. We’ll assign each tool a score of five in each category. This will give us a maximum of 20 points.
Before I get to the details, a quick reminder: Some of the links in this article may be affiliate links. This helps me keep the coffee brewing and the lights on so that I can continue learning and sharing my knowledge with you. As you can see, it didn’t impact my review. Below, I’ll share the good and bad aspects of both tools.
Grammarly is the first tool we will examine. Grammarly will be assessed in each of the four categories.

Grammarly’s Integrations and Features
Grammarly is the best place to start when it comes integrations. Grammarly offers a desktop editor, a web-version and a Chrome plugin. There is also a Microsoft Word addon.
You can also download the iOS and Android apps, as well as a keyboard. This is great if your phone is used for email and business tasks.
Grammarly also offers a Google Docs Addon, which is promising but ultimately disappointing. It is still in beta, so there are chances that it will improve over time. The Google Docs addon covers only simple grammar and spelling errors so it is not that different from regular spell checks.
Grammarly gets a total of 4 stars for Integrations and Features.
How Accurate Is Grammarly?
For accuracy, I consider how many false positives (suggestions that aren’t clear) and how many errors it misses.
Grammarly does a great job when you are completing simple writing tasks. Grammarly is perfect for writing emails, social media posts and occasional newsletters. This makes sense because, if you take a look at their website and marketing materials, it seems like they are targeting general internet users and not just the author.
You can edit fiction works with them and it becomes obvious that they are a general internet tool. The tool is not able to handle dialogue and book prose, as it is with most grammar checkers.
This in mind, Grammarly received a mere 3 out 5 stars. This may be a slight increase for those who are just browsing the web and need basic functionality.
Grammarly is one the best-designed and intuitive tools available.
Grammarly makes everything feel natural. Grammarly doesn’t have annoying lagging, or too many buttons.
Even tiny red lines below mistakes can be perfect. I have used other tools that put the red line in awkward spots. When you click to make the suggested edit, it will click away. Grammarly on the other side has no problems.
It’s not just the Chrome app that works flawlessly. The web editor is also great. The prompt will appear when you open a new document. This prompt allows you to choose the goals for your piece. You can edit the suggestions you make to create a product that meets your needs.
When you stop and think about it, everything makes sense. Grammarly is designed for the average internet user. It would be foolish to bombard them with too many writer-focused options. Grammarly is designed to be so simple to use that anyone can learn it within a matter of days.
Grammarly is a great tool for design and usability if you don’t have it already.
How Much Does Grammarly Cost?
Grammarly does not have a single price. It follows the tiered pricing structure that is very popular in SaaS (software-as-a-service) products.
There is a monthly cost, but you can save more by purchasing a longer subscription. The monthly plan is $29 per month. However, it’s hard to imagine people signing up when the annual plan costs $11.66 per month.
Grammarly offers a free version, which I think is the best editing software available. The Grammarly free version should be sufficient for most users.
Grammarly gets a rating of 4/5 for pricing. Grammarly’s relatively low annual fee and the best-of-breed version are the main factors that contributed to this score.
Let’s now take a look at Grammarly and compare it to WhiteSmoke.
You can see WhitesSmoke here.
Integrations and Features
WhiteSmoke has a variety of integrations available depending on the subscription plan. Access is available on all major browsers, including Chrome, Safari and Opera. If you purchase the premium version, you will also be able to download a desktop version. WhiteSmoke can be used with Gmail which is very convenient.
WhiteSmoke is only available online. This makes it somewhat difficult to use.
WhiteSmoke has many resources that will help you become a better writer. These include a collection of templates for emails and CVs.
A series of videos that focus on common writing issues and how to avoid them is also available. This is a great feature. It’s surprising that more writing tools don’t have this feature. Click this video to see how we can help you avoid it. WhiteSmoke has a translator that can translate into almost any language you could think of. But, WhiteSmoke’s translator works in almost every language you can think of. I have seen lots of feedback confirming this. Although I have not done much translation work, it is less important if the feature is comparable to Google Translate.
I give it 3 out 5 for integrations. It is slightly less integration-wise than Grammarly. It does offer a few other features, such as online lessons, templates and, most importantly, a translator.
Is WhiteSmoke Accurate.
WhiteSmoke has a very accurate grammar and spelling checker. The tool offers many of the same checks that Grammarly. I have used it a few times. WhiteSmoke’s style selector didn’t work for me, so I found the style checks to be a bit bland.
WhiteSmoke is a great program if you want to write accurately.
WhiteSmoke gets a solid 4/5 for accuracy. Spell checkers are not without danger.
WhiteSmoke’s design and ease of use are its biggest flaws. It can be difficult to navigate and use the tool is slow.
WhiteSmoke’s Windows application also allows for a maximum of 10,000 characters per session. It’s 10,000 characters, not 10,000 words. Every letter, punctuation mark and space count. WhiteSmoke’s desktop application is not applicable if you are writing a long-form piece like a book.
WhiteSmoke gets a 3/5 for design and usability.
How Much Does WhiteSmoke Cost?
WhiteSmoke has the best price. Their premium options are more affordable than Grammarly.
Whitesmoke Essentials costs $10 per Month (marked down to $5 when i checked it).
Whitesmoke premium costs $13.33 per Month (marked down to $6.66, when I checked it).
Whitesmoke Business is $22.99/month (marked down to $11.50, when I checked it).
WhiteSmoke offers an annual plan. The web and premium versions of the service are significantly cheaper than Grammarly’s. A three-year subscription is also available, which is cheaper.
WhiteSmoke does not offer a free trial, which is a big shame. It doesn’t even offer a free trial. WhiteSmoke gets a 4 from 5.
The Winner is?
Now it’s time for you to add the numbers. These are the final results:
Grammarly – 17 out of 20, WhiteSmoke: 14 out 20 My verdict? Grammarly is the best all-around tool. It is easy to use online and offline. The design and usability of Grammarly are excellent. You can also get a free trial to see if it suits your needs. It is also great for writing long-form, such as a book.
WhiteSmoke can be a good option if you’re looking to save some money but don’t mind using a tool that’s more complicated than Grammarly. WhiteSmoke is the best choice if you are looking for a translation tool (which Grammarly does not offer).
